Cracked Up

Well as you can tell we have not been posting very much. We have a good excuse though. We sold and closed on our house. We are now apartment dwellers after a whirlwind move. Half of our stuff is in storage and the rest of it is squeezed into an apartment that is half the size of our old house. All of us (human and cat a like) are crammed like sardines in can. Moving just sucks and we have to do another move in a few months. However we are relieved that everything went relatively well.

Now that the pain is behind us we can focus again on the new house. We met with our builder Nelson on Friday to do a walkthrough before they put the sheetrock up and it went well. There were a few minor issues that will get fixed before the walls go up and one issue that depressed us. The fossil from the month before has enlarged to form a slight but noticeable crack the goes across the floor. It does not affect the floor structurally but is not pretty. I brought this up with Nelson and we are now getting bamboo floors in the living room. We are sad to see the rock floor go but on the other hand the wood will warm up the room and with all the breeze blocks on the walls a little extra warmth is a good thing.

As for the rest of the house there is not much really to look at. All boring stuff such as the electrical, gas lines, pluming etc… The inside walls should be going up in the next week or so and that is when things get interesting again. There are a few things of note below:

You can see the metal roof, if you look at the upper windows you will notice the new green color of the stucco.

On this picture you can see the green color a bit better. The doors will be painted the same color in order to help bring all the colors in. The driveway is also complete.

We also started to look into solar power for the house. There are some interesting options. I’ll meet with one company later this week to discuss those options so we will see how that works out.
